Injection assessment

Joint-injection assessment with safety and rehabilitation in mind.

An injection may be considered for some joint or soft-tissue presentations, but it is not the right answer for every pain problem. An assessment can help clarify the symptoms, discuss conservative management and determine whether further clinical consideration is appropriate.

A decision, not a default

The purpose of assessment is to understand the problem, your response to previous care, relevant health factors and your functional goals. Physiotherapy, exercise and load management remain important whether or not an injection is considered.

Safety comes first

Suitability, risks, benefits, alternatives and any need for medical review must be considered individually. New severe symptoms, suspected infection, major trauma or rapidly worsening pain require appropriate medical assessment rather than an injection appointment.

Frequently asked questions

Is a joint injection right for my pain?

That depends on the diagnosis, health history, previous management and your goals. An assessment is needed before deciding whether an injection should be considered.

Will an injection replace rehabilitation?

No. If an injection is clinically appropriate, rehabilitation and a gradual return to activity are still usually important parts of recovery.
